A letter to the editor, in this week’s St. Louis Post Dispatch, written by Mary Schaefer, Executive Director of the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, sheds some light on the hard truths that our seniors are facing today.
“One in three seniors struggles to meet the most basic needs of adequate food, medicine, affordable housing and accessible transportation.”
Budget cut considerations threaten the ability of our seniors to age in place which, many times, preserves the dignity and livelihood of our seniors, and also happens to be the most cost-effective situation for Missouri taxpayers.
There is plenty that you can do – donate your time, talent and treasure to help what Mary describes as what is becoming Missouri’s hidden poor.
